The City of Shakopee is located in the southwest corner of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, 23 miles from Minneapolis. The City has approximately 29 square miles within its corporate limits.

Residents of Shakopee enjoy both the atmosphere of a small town and the resources of a metropolitan area. The City has its own downtown central business district, regional medical center, and business park. General Info

Shakopee, which was named for a Native American chief, is a scenic city located in the southwestern corner of the Twin Cities metro area. The city's namesake was Chief Shakopee of the Santee tribe, an offshoot of the Dakota Sioux who once resided in the Minnesota River Valley. More than 20,000 Shakopee residents enjoy the lively rural atmosphere and the convenience of living within 23 miles of Minneapolis.
Located in Scott County, the eighth fastest-growing county in the United States, the city boasts affordable housing, a thriving downtown business district, a top-notch medical center and an outstanding public school district. Shakopee is located along the Minnesota River and is surrounded by Ponderosa pines and abundant wetlands. The city is also home to many educational and historic sites.

Education
Local public schools serve more than 4,200 students in Shakopee and other suburban communities. Shakopee Junior High School has been honored as a U.S. Department of Education “School of Excellence.”

Entertainment
The city draws more than 4 million visitors each year who come to enjoy the area’s natural beauty and abundant entertainment options. An amusement park, casino-style gaming, cultural events, horse racing and championship golf can be found throughout the city.

Location
Shakopee is located on the northern border of Scott County on the Minnesota River. It borders the larger cities of Chaska and Chanhassen to the north, and the cities of Savage and Prior Lake to the east. Shakopee residents have very easy access to the Twin Cities via State Highway 169 and Interstate 35.

Shakopee has approximately 20,568 residents.

Pricing
The real estate market offers housing options to suit all price ranges. Many single-family homes are available in new neighborhoods nestled against a backdrop of wetlands and Ponderosa pines. Three- and four-bedroom executive homes offer golf course frontage and incredible views of the Twin Cities’ skyline. Home prices range from the high $100,000s to the $800,000s. Some estate properties are priced at more than $1.5 million and feature luxurious amenities and substantial acreage.
Desirable new-home construction in Meadow Wood II and Monarch Estates start in the low $200,000s, while lovely estates on one-acre wooded lots are priced from $500,000 and up. Some homes feature creek or river frontage. A limited number of townhouses and condominiums are available from the mid-$100,000s to $450,000. Land and lots are available for custom development.

Recreation
The Three Rivers Park District, located in the suburban Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, maintains more than 27,000 acres of park reserves, regional parks, trails and special-use facilities. In Shakopee alone, there are 11 beautifully landscaped parks on 159 green acres.
