located in the southwestern corner of the Twin Cities metro area. The city's
namesake was Chief Shakopee of the Santee tribe, an offshoot of the Dakota

Location
Shakopee is located on the northern border of Scott County on the Minnesota
River. It borders the larger cities of Chaska and Chanhassen to the north,
and the cities of Savage and Prior Lake to the east. Shakopee residents
have very easy access to the Twin Cities via State Highway 169 and Interstate
35.
